Filming Information for Media
Members of the media are welcome to obtain vision (still or moving) at Queenstown Airport. Due to the nature of our operations, there are processes around security, filming locations and passenger engagement that must be followed.
The airport is split into two areas:
- Landside (Before Security) refer to areas that do not require security screening and are easily accessible to the general public.
- Airside (After Security) refers to the restricted airfield area and parts of the airport terminal (e.g. Customs, gate lounges, Duty Free) that are accessible only to passengers and staff with security cards who have passed through Aviation Security screening.
News media are able to capture vision in the public areas of the airport but we ask that, as a courtesy, you contact the Corporate & Community Affairs team on +64 27 839 6258 to advise of your visit.
When requesting 'after security' access, a week's notice is preferred in order to make the appropriate arrangements. Permission must be granted by Queenstown Airport Corporation, Aviation Security and the relevant airlines and border agencies. Each crew member will need to apply for an aviation security pass. All crews will be escorted by QAC appointed staff members at all times.
Requirements for aviation security pass:
- Passport style head shot (.JPEG)
- Valid government issued ID: Copy of front and back of New Zealand Driver's Licence or Passport (.JPEG)
Commercial Filming at Queenstown Airport
Queenstown Airport is located among the stunning vistas of the Southern Lakes region. We're excited to help the film industry thrive in our part of the world but due to the nature of our operations we have some privacy and security requirements to ensure everyone visiting or working at Queenstown Airport has a safe and enjoyable experience with us.
Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) Filming Policy & Requirements
Written permission must be granted by QAC before any filming (stills or moving) occurs on airport land. If permission is granted, QAC will assist in negotiations with the airport border agencies, airlines and any other affected parties on your behalf. For all filming requests, a minimum notice period of 2 weeks is required. The more complex the request, the more notice required.
Indicative Location Fees
The type of filming and scale of the production will determine the location charge to be applied. Other affected parties such as Border Agencies or Aviation Security Service may also impose charges depending on their requirements. The charges outlined below cover the use of the airport, both landside and airside, and are subject to change at any time. All costs associated with the production such as staffing or equipment resources will be on-charged. This will be advised upon application.
