Queenstown Airport has launched an eye-catching new mobile responsive website which aims to provide its users with a seamless online experience as part of their overall travel journey.

The new design brings www.queenstownairport.co.nz into line with current airport branding and best practice in the digital world.  With a fresher, brighter feel and improved usability, website users can now easily access key information across all mobile, tablet and desktop devices.

Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) Communications Manager Jen Andrews said that the move to a mobile responsive framework was driven by fast-moving technology trends and more travellers searching for information on the go.

“Technology advances have changed consumer behaviour and as the world rapidly moves to an online environment, websites and social media platforms have become the new norm.

“With close to half a million visitors using our website in the last 12 months and 55 per cent of those accessing it via a mobile device, we really needed to improve our customers’ online experience.  We’ve worked hard to better segment information to suit their needs and more accurately reflect both the airport’s and region’s brand values. 

“We’re delighted with the result and believe we’ve created a vibrant, useful portal which enhances our visitors’ overall airport experience and helps motivate them to visit the region,” she said.

The new site was designed by Queenstown-based Feast Creative and built by One Fat Sheep which has offices in Queenstown and Melbourne.  Key features include:

  • The ability to view information quickly and easily on any mobile device with content automatically scaling to fit screen size

  • Enhanced navigation and accessibility, serving essential information within a couple of clicks

  • Real-time flight status updates streamed automatically from airline data feeds via the airport’s newly upgraded Flight Information Display System

  • Better segmentation of information based on analysis of what users find most valuable

    • New zones created – Travelling (default), Commercial, Corporate, Media/Filming, Community - to better segment information from the main Traveller site

    • ‘Need to know’ guides for those arriving, departing, or meeting and greeting

  • Improved airport data and insights in the Corporate\Planning and Performance section

  • Enhanced calculators and maps

  • Larger format images showcasing the region’s diverse scenery, experiences and seasons

Ms Andrews says that while Stage One is now complete, the website will continually evolve.

“We’re very keen to get people’s feedback and will continue tweaking the website as necessary to give our users the best possible experience.  We also have a longer term road map of developments to roll out.”
